Building an inclusion school

The Malaika School is a preschool in Gisenyi, in the north-east of Rwanda.  It is among schools that care for the children of the Batwa and it accepts street children.  We want to support the construction of a school building. The money for building a school is still missing.

The goal of Iriba-Brunnen is to support the children through education, strengthening the ethnic minority, integration into society, support of human rights, ways out of poverty and (forced) prostitution through education and strengthening of self-confidence.

The school, including the preschool area, is planned for 250 children and is of course open to children from all parts of society, not just the children of the Batwa.

The aim is to enable these and other children to complete primary school. We believe that this is the best way to integrate them into society. From the very beginning, the students learn to work together and to respect each other. We want to improve the living conditions through educational measures and support the highly disadvantaged minority.

With the extension to a primary school, we are pursuing several goals for the sustainable development of the UN goals. We are also supporting socially disadvantaged girls and girls in need of help who are in danger of falling into forced prostitution because of their difficult circumstances, lack of education and need.

Our partner in Rwanda is the organization Youth in Action for Development (YADE) and the associated Ecole Malaika, based in Gisenyi, Rwanda.

YADE is a recognized association in Rwanda and has been working for several years on a varied and comprehensive package of measures to improve the situation of children in general.
